FD.io summary

C.J. Collier

Hey folks,

I'm creating Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and EL packages, and one of the questions I'm asked a lot is what is the summary of the umbrella project?  I can get summaries of each individual project from the wiki and I consider those to be the canonical location for these strings.  However, there is no summary on the main page.

Ed, should I ask you to put a summary on this page?  Who is the single source of truth here?

Thanks much,

C.J.

Okay team, I've gone through the configuration checklist. Please kick
the tires and let me know if I've missed anything!

Creating a project?

Joel Halpern

I was trying to follow the procedures laid out in the New_Project_Checklist.

It starts with “make sure you have a git repository and make sure you have a jjb.

NSH_SFC does not appear to have either one.

Nor does it have a Jira Project or an email list.

It looks like I should have all those before I go make my project main page using the template.

But I cannot determine the magic incantation to make them appear.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Joel

How do folks feel about having a week/fortnightly TWS meeting at a scheduled time?

This has worked in ODL in the past, where topics of interest (interesting patches, use-cases, etc) can have a forum to be discussed.

Typically the agenda is held on a wiki page, where folks can self-nominate a topic, time needed etc and take the next available date, and if there is no agenda, there is no meeting.

Any thoughts, concerns?

NETLINK project proposal working doc

Keith Burns <alagalah@...>

Excuse the tardiness, but please find the link to the working doc for creating a NETLINK project proposal.

Please note, in the past with these things I have found it effective to
  • give public comment access
  • Committer write access
Since I don’t know anyone’s preferred gdoc account, simply request edit access if you are interested in being an initial committer to the project.

My thoughts on committers:
  • Table stakes is significant code contribution
  • Time commitment to code review and
  • Ensuring that patches and feature proposals stay within the scope of the project.

Hi Joel,

If that’s the decision of the TSC, I can totally understand. In OPNFV, we were recently compromised when malware struck our Wiki. We lost several days of being able to post pertinent release updates or other information when that hit. My understanding is that while LF does provide hosting and other resources for us, we do have the ability to override certain default selections, for example the use of Media Wiki vs. the de facto wiki solution.

Not a biggie for me. Just thought we might want to have a policy that supports when we have an opinion. Also, I think the tools will also help determine how we can actually support the later part of the deck.

Hope this explanation helps.

Best,

Ash

The later parts of this looked philosophically correct (we need a way to get reports and react to them, …)

I am a little confused about the earlier part of the deck, as it seems to be about protecting the project resources themselves from attacks.  While important, my understanding is that such was the LF responsibility.  We can report problems, but it is not a TSC task.

Joel

Hi Everyone,

This week is pretty crazy with the OPNFV Hackfest and with ONS. I’ve attached an initial draft of the security process. I still need to work out the flows, but since they’re kinda dependent on whether or not we agree to my initial assumptions, I thought this would be a good place for some initial feedback.

My wife and I found out a couple days ago that our daughter is getting an honor roll award at 8am this morning, so I will not be able to attend the TSC call. I do plan to be on the next one, on the 25th.

I’m happy to have a call with anyone interested in discussing the slides, or we can have a IRC or other type of chat. Email also works.

Best,

Ash
